When I tell people we are a landscaping company their first question is normally about the brown spot on their grass or the endless weeds in their gardens. Landscaping can be much more than that. A well designed backyard retreat consists of gardens framed by intelligently chosen hardscaping elements. Some hardscaping projects are made out of natural stone. Whether it is Indian Sandstone, Wiarton square cut, random flagstone or limestone it will be set in a bed of mortar and jointed on a concrete pad for a lasting demonstration of the stones beauty. Other projects that fall into the stone hardscaping category are landscape projects containing interlocking pavers. Driveways, patios, walkways and parking pads often are based around a concrete interlocking paver such as one from Unilock or Permacon. Drifting away from the flatwork on the ground, retaining walls, seat walls and raised garden beds are often incorporated into a landscape to compliment the surrounding work by created levels and implied lines. Be careful though, with Toronto’s harsh winters and frost jack a common problem these projects have to be built with care and knowledge. Really the sky is the limit when it comes to landscaping with stone whether it is natural or concrete cast. Toronto landscapers along with homeowners are lucky there is an amazing selection of stone to be had in the GTA. So whether it is a driveway, patio, retaining wall or seat wall, stone is a versatile product that when installed correctly will stand the test of time.
