The really great part about curb appeal in downtown Toronto is that for the most part your front yard is not overly large and keeping it tamed and looking great isn’t a massive task. Another great addition to curb appeal in Toronto is that the cost to create a great looking front yard is not a huge expense compared to the lasting beauty it gives the front of your home. The nature of downtown living dictates that for the most part the distance between the sidewalk and the front door is not a lot of distance. This means that the cost of your front walkway is reduced which translates to an increase in price of building materials. Better building materials and better installation means that your front walkway will look great and last a long time. One product we like to use a lot in downtown front yards in Toronto is square cut Indian Sandstone. Indian Sandstone is beautiful stone that is shipped over from India and comes in over 10 different colors. This variation allows us to compliment or contrast your homes appearance for an awesome for front yard landscape design. The procedure for a walkway made out of square cut natural stone is to first demo, excavate and prepare for pouring concrete. Merlin Construction always lays 2” of aggregate then forms and pours 4-5” of concrete due to the cold Toronto winters. The stones are then bonded to the concrete with mortar with a spacing of ½” then the joints are filled with mortar and the stones are cleaned and sealed. The excavation is backfilled and then sod or seed is put down in the over-dig zone where grass previously existed. Due to the limited materials and easy installation procedure Indian Sandstone is a great choice for front yard walkways in Toronto. Raised planters are also an excellent addition to your landscape project. Easily built out of Unilock Dimensional Stone, raised planters can be square, curved or really any funky shape you want. The prep work isn’t overly involved and the modular nature of the stone means that install is a breeze. The base prep is the same as patio base preparation. Downtown Toronto is a densely populated area with smaller pieces of land and small front yards. This means that making them look awesome doesn’t take a lot of money. Choose the right elements and the right Toronto landscaper and you will end up with a beautiful yard.
